The Sexist discrimination act of the 1970’s was due to an overt and obvious discrimination and inappropriate behavior towards women in the office. (it was mostly in America)
The legislation says that an employer cannot discriminate or deny an employee based on gender or sexuality.
The exception is when a job requires a person of a certain gender for that job. (eg; Saudi taxi driver, the US President, “ladies’ taxi” drivers.)
It is important because without it, the work place would be far too inappropriate, and there would be a lot less women with professional jobs, education and there would be no equality or fairness.
It occurs most commonly in job adverts, specifications and interviews. The largest cause of not being accepted for a job was due to gender discrimination.
